How Long Do Dental Crowns Last? Dental crowns can last for many years, but are not designed to last indefinitely. Even with proper care, dental patients should not expect crowns to be trouble-free for decades. There is encouraging evidence, however, that points to a high success rate: a 2009 study found that more than 90% of dental crowns will not require treatment within five years of placement. The study also found that 50% to 80% last from 15 to 20 years.¹

We humans have two sets of teeth in our lifetime. The first set is your ‘primary teeth’, which many people around Gibsonton often call ‘baby teeth. Baby teeth typically start to come in at about 6 months old. An average healthy mouth for a Gibsonton resident has a total of 20 primary teeth by about age 5.

Hello, I’m Dr. Richard Kernagis. At my Gibsonton practice, I have noticed more and more of my patients with stress-related dental issues. Gibsonton men and women may not think about it, but stress can do a number on your oral health.

Mouth sores, clenching and grinding, periodontal disease, and poor oral hygiene can all be exacerbated by stress.

Gibsonton people who have difficulty managing stress need to realize that it can increase the risk of getting mouth sores such as cankers and cold sores. Most canker sores only last 7-10 days, but for relief from the irritation, we recommend our patients pick up an over-the-counter topical anesthetic at any Apollo Beach, Fish Hawk, or Lithia drug store.

At Your Time Dental Urgent Care, we do wisdom teeth extractions.

Let’s review these unpredictable (and somewhat mysterious) teeth.

Wisdom teeth are the last of the molars to erupt from the gum. They usually erupt in the late teens and early twenties. Not all men and women develop these teeth. Those that do can have one, two, three, or four.

Some Gibsonton dental patients never experience any troubles with these extra molars. But sometimes wisdom teeth can lead to dental complications.

If the wisdom teeth do not have the room to develop and come in normally, they are referred to as impacted wisdom teeth.

An impacted tooth may never emerge from the bone and gum, emerge only partially, or come in sideways.

Impacted teeth can damage the adjacent molar, cause infection, or trigger gum disease. Sometimes these conditions cause no noticeable symptoms for a period of time. To prevent these complications, Drs. Kernagis may recommend extraction.

Wisdom teeth symptoms include pain when opening the mouth, gum swelling, bad breath, and pain when chewing. These indicators can be continual or intermittent.

My name is Richard Kernagis, DDS DMD. I have been practicing dentistry in Gibsonton since 2001. If you have old silver amalgam fillings, we can replace them with nearly-invisible fillings that are tooth-colored. These filings are made out of a strong composite resin.
