Consider the following scenario: You are stretched out in a chair at the dentist’s office holding a remote as you try to tune into your favorite radio station. A dental assistant attaches a paper bib around your neck. Someone clicks on a bright overhead light and you see latex-gloved hands moving toward your open mouth. You close your eyes.
How does this impact you? Does your heart start to pound? Are your palms sweaty?
If so, you may be a good candidate for sedation dentistry. Oral sedation benefits nervous dental patients every day. Moderate sedation assists in all types of dental procedures such as root canals, dental implants, and wisdom teeth removal.
If you are planning to undergo extensive restorative or cosmetic dental work, sedation dentistry may allow your dentist to perform multiple procedures in a single visit while you remain calm.
Don’t let fear prevent you from getting the dental treatment you need. Schedule a visit with Drs. Kernagis to learn about conscious sedation.

Same-day dentistry is for dental emergencies. Plus many general and specialty services as well.
Let’s discuss some of the same-day services we offer at Your Time Dental Urgent Care in Gibsonton.
Same-Day Dentistry Is For Toothaches
A sudden toothache is never convenient. And when it originates in the evening or on the weekend, it seems to hurt even worse.
When other Gibsonton dentists have gone home, you can walk into Your Time Dental Urgent Care and we’ll provide exceptional service. Most importantly, we will treat the cause of your toothache and ease your pain.
Same-Day Dentistry Is For A Broken Tooth
If you break a tooth and it hurts, put a cold compress on the area (inside and/or outside the mouth). Even if it doesn’t hurt, give us a call to talk about your options.
Same-Day Dentistry Is For A Knocked-Out Tooth
We hope this never happens to you. But if it does, we can treat you right away. Your tooth may be successfully re-implanted if done rapidly.
Make sure you only hold the tooth by the crown, never touch the root. If the tooth is dirty, rinse it gently with water being cautious not to brush off any tissue. It is best to reinsert the tooth into the socket. Don’t try this with children, they may swallow it!
Same-Day Dentistry Is For A Broken Crown or Lost Filling
If you have had a filling fall out, call us promptly. Ditto for a broken crown, bridge, or veneer. Without the restoration, the tooth is vulnerable to additional damage. We provide beautiful same-day restorations.
Same-Day Dentistry Is For Nervous Dental Patients
If you need treatment but hesitate because of dental anxiety, talk to us about sedation dentistry. We have several methods to help you through the procedure.

Here are some guidelines on some daily activities that can definitely contribute to tooth issues that may require emergency services. Although we’d love to see you, we always hope you don’t have to visit us under urgent or painful circumstances.
1. Be a Builder Not a Wrecker Bacteria are constantly trying to build an empire in your mouth, give it what it wants: juice, soda, chewy candy for the small crevices and hard to reach surfaces!
2. Let Acid Rock It! Energy drinks, diet soda, red wine, coffee, tea. Great at staining and wearing away surfaces. The perfect magnet for acid-loving bacteria. So avoid gums with Xylitol and Recaldent and shoot for foods and beverages containing citric acid and the super-duper sourest of candies.
3. Enjoy an Overcast Day Every Day Lighting up and remaining in a tobacco fog is an efficient way to achieve the vibrant yellow hue we’re all looking for in tooth apparel.
4. Toss out Toothbrush and Floss Avoid brushing after every single meal with a soft, gentle bristled toothbrush and fend off the urge to floss twice a day. This is critical if you want the bacteria to take over and result in gum disease and tooth decay.
5. Use Your Teeth as Tools Hammer, wrench, screwdriver, scissors, bottle-opener. Use your imagination. Who needs a toolbox when you’ve got 32 solid options? 6. Cancel Regular Check-Ups It is more difficult to ruin your smile if you have regular check-ups with your favorite Gibsonton dentist. Best to avoid them altogether if your goal is pure chaos and painful destruction.
I hope you’ve enjoyed this article and walked away with a renewed desire to take care of those enamel-covered marvels that serve you faithfully day in and day out.

DON’T use all-purpose or “super” glue to cement it back on the tooth. You can try denture adhesive to keep it in place temporarily until you can get to your urgent care dentist.

DON’T clean off any tissue attached to it.
If the tooth gets dirty, DON’T scrub the tooth. You can rinse it gently with warm water.
If a tooth is knocked out, it may be successfully re-implanted if done swiftly.

Dry sockets can develop after wisdom teeth or other adult teeth are taken out. When a dry socket occurs, underlying bones and nerves are exposed in place of where a blood clot should form. Dry sockets can be exceptionally painful and delay healing.
How to avoid dry sockets:
Follow your dentist’s directions following the extraction procedure
Keep your mouth clean with gentle saltwater rinse every few hours (your dentist may also prescribe an antibacterial rinse)
Don’t use a straw until the extraction site has healed
Avoid hard foods
Brush teeth gently and avoid the extraction site
Drink plenty of liquids
Avoid strenuous activities
Treat swelling by holding an ice pack to your cheek
Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol
Gently flushing out your empty sockets after getting your wisdom teeth removed is a smart move for a couple of weeks after the procedure. Your dentist may recommend that you use a syringe to cautiously flush out your sockets. However, if you do develop dry sockets, it is even vital to sanitarily flush out the sockets regularly.
How to treat dry sockets:
Flush out the affected area
Stop smoking or drinking if necessary
Follow your dentist’s guidelines

Have you ever been told that your smile is beyond repair? That may not be true. At Your Time Dental Urgent Care we perform dental miracles every day. Here are some tough dental problems we routinely solve:
Tough Problem 1: Insufficient Bone for Dental Implant Solution: Bone Grafting
As a replacement for a missing tooth, a dental implant has many benefits as compared to a dental bridge. However, there must be enough bone to support the titanium post (screw) that is surgically implanted.
Many implant patients require some level of bone grafting and the procedure has a high success rate. Disinfected, processed donor bone is inserted at the implant location where the bone needs structural strengthening. The grafting material is in granular form that can be packed into the contours. It stimulates growth, and eventually, the patient’s newly-created bone replaces the donor bone material.
If you have had another dentist tell you that you don’t have enough bone to place an implant post, talk to Drs. Kernagis. The team at Your Time Dental Urgent Care has performed many bone grafting procedures for dental implant placement.
Tough Problem 2: Severe Tooth Loss Solution: Full Mouth Restoration
If it feels like your dental dilemmas are beyond repair because you have few or no teeth left, take heart. Regardless of the cause—chemotherapy, recreational drug use, eating disorder, extreme mouth injury, disability, inadequate oral hygiene, or simply poor overall health—there is hope.
Full mouth reconstruction can restore your previously healthy, attractive smile or give you the beautiful smile you never had. Patients who undergo full mouth reconstruction regain their confidence to smile, eat, and speak normally.
Full mouth restoration is composed of a combination of dental procedures as needed according to the patient’s particular situation. These can include dental implants, implant-supported bridges, orthodontia, crowns, inlays/onlays, dental bonding, gum contouring, soft tissue grafts, and teeth whitening.
By listening carefully, asking the right questions, communicating clearly, and counseling with you, Drs. Kernagis can fully analyze your seemingly impossible dental dilemma and provide a solution. Call us today at 813-519-0128.
Dental crowns have been around a long time, but they continue to play a critical role in Your Time Dental Urgent Care dentistry. A dental crown, often called a cap, covers the visible part of the tooth.
Dental crowns are used for numerous common dental problems:
An old crown that is damaged or ill-fitting A broken tooth A tooth with severe decay A tooth that has had a root canal A tooth that is too small or misshapen A tooth that prohibits a proper bite
A dental crown serves both structural and aesthetic purposes. It protects a natural tooth from additional decay and damage while permitting normal function. Plus, a crown can save a tooth from extraction and the ensuing bone loss.
Dental patients who get a dental crown should not assume that the tooth is now invincible. Crowns need daily cleaning and flossing just like natural teeth. The remaining tooth structure just around the gumline could still become decayed and the soft tissue around the crown is susceptible to gum disease. Chewing hard foods or using your teeth as a tool can cause a crown to crack or break. (Use scissors to open a stubborn plastic package—don’t bite and pull!)
We can guide you on caring for your new crown so that it will last as long as possible. For details on dental crown prices, urgent dental care treatment, or conscious sedation, call Your Time Dental Urgent Care today.
